Meet Our Team

Meet the volunteers who play key roles in the operations of Threads of Hope Hellas.

Cecilia | Founder & Director

Cecilia Sakatira is a worker with EME Ministries in Greece, originally from Zimbabwe. She has served as a humanitarian and Christian worker in Tunisia, Morocco, Uzbekistan, South Africa, Zimbabwe and Greece. Teacher, trainer, mentor and friend to "the least of these," she has developed expertise in working with single women and families in developing their physical, commercial, social and spiritual enterprises.

She is the originator of Threads of Hope, and holds a Master of Arts in Christian Counseling, degrees from the University of Zimbabwe (Honors in Sociology), and holds certificates in International Human Trafficking (Angelo State University, 2013), Manpower Planning and Development as well as Personnel Management (Institute of Personnel Management in Harare, Zimbabwe). She also has earned a certificate in pattern cutting and designing from the Harare Polytechnic College.

Through Threads of Hope, which she started in April 2012 as a means to educate and minister to victims of human trafficking in Athens, Greece, Cecilia has been able to incorporate her lifelong love for sewing with her passion for holistically caring for women and children in need.
Joy | Counselor

Joy is from Philadelphia, USA. She developed a heart for women in crisis when she began studying counseling at Biblical Theological Seminary in 2009. During the following years, she worked with victims of sexual abuse and volunteered at a local crisis pregnancy center in the US.

In 2012, Joy moved with her family to Athens, Greece. She has been involved in Threads of Hope Hellas since its early stages and now serves in a variety of supportive roles in addition to providing counseling and emotional support to the women working at Threads.

Joy has a certificate in Biblical Counseling and is completing her Masters in Counseling as well as a post-grad series from the Global Trauma Recovery Institute.
Ellen | Counselor

Ellen has a diverse background, growing up in Canada, Russia, and Germany. She first visited Greece in 2007, and has since been drawn back many times. The third of four siblings, she is the proud auntie of four lovely nieces.

While her prior education was in Visual Art, she is currently working toward a degree in Professional Counseling. Creativity and beauty have always been very important to her, and she is thrilled and blessed to be working in her niche at Threads of Hope.

She is thankful to God for allowing her to be a part of this team, to work with the women at Threads of Hope Hellas, and to serve Him in a way that is related to her gifts and passions.
Alicia | Webmaster

Alicia has a personal passion for seeing women grow and thrive spiritually as well as a professional background in communications and PR. She's thrilled to have the chance to serve in the fight against modern-day slavery through Threads of Hope Hellas.

Over the last 10 years, she has served in a variety of communications roles, including Communications Coordinator for a small non-profit in Athens and Senior Communications Officer for a statewide education network in Texas. Her first encounter with Threads was while working in Athens in 2013, and she remains our go-to for communications, from helping to build this website to editing our quarterly newsletters.

She currently resides and works in Austin, TX with her husband. Alicia has a Bachelor of Arts in English Literature from the University of Houston.
